Make your mother feel marvellous – on Sligo Food Trail

Mothers do a lot for their children, but when people reminisce about their childhood, it’s amazing how often their “mammy’s cooking” crops up. With a few honourable exceptions, our mothers are pretty much responsible for feeding us through babyhood, childhood and often well beyond. It makes a lot of sense to treat your Mum this Sunday on Mothers’ Day.

If you’re feeling lucky you could even win a rather nice prize or two for your mother. Seven businesswomen in Tubbercurry, including Teresa Krebs of Cawley’s Hotel, have banded together to offer a stunning set of seven prizes for one lucky Mum. The loot includes everything from Cath Kidston goodies to Sunday lunch. The nominator of the winning entry gets a bottle of prosecco or cocktails for two with tapas at Cawley’s. Nicely done Mary, Teresa, Olivia, Mary, Katherine, Leona and Celine – the seven wise women of Tubbercurry. Enter

You can win a man in the Draft House competition! Well more precisely, head chef Lee Mastin will come to your own home and cook lunch for a table of six. Now what’s not to like about that! Enter

You’ll find a superb choice of restaurants, gastro pubs and cafés on our website but here are a few examples of extra special treats for Mothers’ Day.

Shell’s Café on the seafront in Strandhill has lobster on the brain for Sunday. They’re putting on a lovely, and rather classy, Lobster Benedict  and a delicious Lobster Bisque. Perfect for the surfing and non-surfing Mums out there.

Laura’s of Carney have a special menu which they are serving from 12.30pm. It’s just €22.95 a person and is sure to be booked out.

At Cawley’s in Tubbercurry you’ll find a lovely full lunch menu on offer. Three courses are just 17.50 or four courses €22.50. All the Mums get a complimentary glass of wine – because they’re worth it of course.

Back in Strandhill Trá Bán has a special Mother’s Day menu at just €24.95. Lunch is served from 12-4pm so it’s perfect for early birds or if you’re running  a bit late!

The Sligo Park Hotel’s restaurant boasts the coveted AA Rosette Award and on Sunday even has some of Mammy’s own dishes on their menu – how does Mum’s Pear & Apple Crumble sound? They offer a special 3 course Mother’s Day lunch menu for just €25.

Sometimes it’s nice just to say thank you, so from all of us on Sligo Food Trail “Thank you to all mothers everywhere”.
