Sligo-based craft brewery The White Hag, has just launched a limited opportunity to become part of their Barrel Aged Beer Project. They are currently offering family, friends and fans, a unique chance to get in on the action, by adopting your very own 225 litre hand-crafted wooden barrel, and gain exclusive returns from that barrel for the next 3 years.

Barrel ageing is essentially where beer is placed into a previously used wine, whiskey, brandy or sherry barrel, and given a year or two to mature. The flavour and personality from the wood itself, and the previous liquid that inhabited the barrel is transferred to the beer.

The White Hag’s current stock of wooden barrels includes Highland Scotch Whiskey and French Cabernet Sauvignon wine barrels. To date they have produced a 10.2% Barrel Aged Imperial Oatmeal Stout, Brett IPA and a Barrel Aged Irish Heather Sour Ale.

There will be 100 barrels released to the first 100 White Hag fans at a cost of EUR250.  As a reward, each year, for 3 years you will receive a limited case of 6 x 750ml (retail value EUR120 per year) hand-bottled, wax-sealed and personally-signed bottles from their Brew Master Joe Kearns.
