Following a visit to Sligo for his ‘Adventures along the Wild Atlantic Way’ show earlier this summer, Ryan Tubridy revealed his favourite things to do in Yeats’ Country, highlighting some of his stand-out places, activities and food destinations he visited which included many of our Sligo Food Trail Members.

Describing the vast selection of sandy beaches on offer along the coastline of Mullaghmore, Rosses Point, Streedagh and Strandhill, Ryan namechecks members Eithnas’s by the Sea, The Little Cottage Café, Austies Pub, Shells Café and Mammy Johnston’s as foodie hotspots once you’ve worked up an appetite exploring the waters and local attractions.

Ryan’s Sligo adventure took him to W.B Yeats grave in Drumcliffe Graveyard. He suggests a visit to Drumcliffe tea house “where you can peruse the offerings of local artists and craftspeople, while Jill and her team look after you with a variety of mouth-watering baked goods.”

He touches on the growing popularity in food culture in Sligo town citing Hargadon’s, Sweet Beat Café and Hooked as some of the town’s tastes of heaven.

“Sligo town is fast establishing itself as a hotspot for foodies on the Wild Atlantic Way, offering the best in everything from quirky cafés to traditional Irish gastropubs and exceptional restaurants.”
