Sligo Food Trail members are always at the pointed edge of innovation and have put together some superb classes and workshops in the lead up to Christmas. Here are a few places you can go to learn something new this Christmastime.

A wreath making workshop at Pudding Row, Easkey
A handmade wreath adorning a door announces Christmas and goodwill to all who pass through –or even pass by. How lovely to think of making your own personal wreath. Well that’s exactly what you can do at Pudding Row Cafe in Easkey on Sunday 10th December.

The 2.5 hour workshop starts at 5.30pm when you’ll be greeted with warming festive refreshments and a quick chat about what you’re looking for from your winter wreath. Experienced tutor Tina Kilian of Nature Inspires will lead the workshop and teach you everything you need to know about the art of seasonal wreath making and the crafty skills involved with helpful tips and tricks to collecting, drying and preserving your own beautiful foliage.

All wreath making essentials and pretty wreath props will be provided on the day. You can also bring along some of your own precious foliage from your garden. Treat yourself and a friend, to kick start the festive season.

Getting to grips with Whiskey

If the idea of knowing a little more about whiskey appeals to you, then Thomas Connollys is the place to be on Thursday 7th December. Connollys are hosting an Irish Whiskey Tasting Master Class with the West Cork distiller Ambassador ,Tony Ryan.

Tony will introduce six whiskeys in total, including The Pogues, the three West Cork Distiller 12 Year Olds and the two West Cork Distillers Glengarriffs series. You can learn all about the distilling process of great Irish whiskey and enjoy a great evening tasting one of our great national drinks. You’ll soon be swirling that class like a true connoisseur!

Bedazzle your friends with your baking skills
Pudding Row in Easkey has something a little bit special for aspiring bakers in December & January – they’re when the baking and bread making workshops take place. Take time out for you this January after the Christmas rush and learn something that will stay with you for life! Classes are from 11am to 5.30pm. Lunch and refreshments will be provided. December classes are fully booked.

Introduction to Yeast Bread (Wed 10th January)
In this class, learn all the essentials for making your own lovely loaves at home. We’ll focus on White Yeast Loaves, herby Foccacia and a Brioche style sharing bread.

Students will make each dough by hand, by themselves and each bread represents a different style, shape and technique.
