People of Sligo have been invited to join the county’s Lough Gill Distillery as they launch a major new Cask Reserve Program. Those at home and abroad are encouraged to join their journey to create Ireland’s best premium single malt whiskey whilst also supporting the restoration of one of Sligo’s most treasured estates.
Since purchasing Hazelwood Estate in 2014, the team behind Lough Gill Distillery have been on a journey to restore Hazelwood House and Estate to its former grandeur. It is anticipated that the house will eventually be part of a major destination visitor centre for Lough Gill Distillery.
The Athrú Sligo Cask Program
Casks of whiskey are often used to celebrate significant shared milestone events such as weddings, birthdays or retirement. They also make for ideal corporate gifts as the bottles can be labelled with a distinct mark or logo. Or, for the more discerning whiskey enthusiast, perhaps an opportunity to create one’s own whiskey brand or single cask bottling?
Initially, the Athrú Sligo Cask Program will offer three different cask types; 200 Litre Bourbon Casks, 240 Litre Oloroso Casks or 500 Litre Sherry Butts. The Athrú distillery team will be at your full disposal to answer questions and provide support throughout the process, for example, in helping further refine your whiskey by re-casking in later years.
Included with cask ownership are annual visits to the Distillery with up to three guests for VIP “all areas” access. Cask owners will also be given private access to the distillery’s bonded warehouses to taste samples and experience first-hand the ‘angels share’.
For Sligo people, it offers a great opportunity to join the journey of a local whiskey, distilled on the grounds of Hazelwood House.
Commenting on the launch, David Raethorne, founder of Lough Gill Distillery said,
“From the outset at Lough Gill Distillery, we have been focused on ‘our place’ here at Hazelwood Estate on the shores of Lough Gill. As you know Hazelwood House and Estate are truly unique, we want to protect and restore them for the future generations of Sligo.
In fact, our whole brand is based around the idea of our place, its location, its climate, its water, its heritage, its buildings and the change we are bringing to our historic 300-year-old Estate.
Today, we invite the people of Sligo to become directly involved in Lough Gill Distillery by investing in an Athrú cask. The proceeds from Cask Reserve sales made in 2021 will be reinvested in the restoration of Hazelwood House and sustainability projects on the estate.”
In recognition of the Sligo community and their connection to Hazelwood House, there is preferential pricing available for the people of Sligo, whether you live at home or abroad. To avail of this offer, contact sales@loughgilldistillery.com.
