Take a closer look at your local pub on Sligo Food Trail. You might be pleasantly surprised at what you’ll find there – pretty much the perfect combination of food and drink for a Christmas celebration.
Hargadon Brothers is one of Sligo’s best known pubs, ‘matured like fine whiskey’, and is included in the prestigious Michelin Eating Out in Pubs Guide. Only 32 pubs in the whole country have this award so it’s well worth checking out. Hargadons were also recognised as one of Ireland’s Best Traditional Pubs serving food at the 2016 National Hospitality Awards.
Also in Sligo Town, The Swagman not only has a bewildering selection of craft beers on draught (including Sligo’s own White Hag beers) but also starts serving food at 11am daily. Could be good to know over the festive season.
The Strand Bar in Strandhill has a Guinness Beef Stew with a reputation that’s gone far and wide. Not only that but they serve hot stone baked pizzas to eat in or take away. Now that’s handy!
Back in Sligo Town, Fiddler’s Creek is a favourite for steaks and seafood to the accompaniment of live local music.
Harrison’s Pub in Cliffoney boasts a host of awards including Best Country Bar for two years running in 2015 and 2016 in the Sky Bar Awards, winner “Best Customer Service, Connacht” in the 2014 & 2015 Irish Restaurant Awards as well as Trip Advisor Certificates of Excellence. Worth nipping out of town for!
